Piping at the Fergus Scottish Festival in 2007
The cry of the bagpipes and echo of the drums fill the air at the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games. These are the sounds of the Festival’s annual Piping Competitions. Hundreds of pipers and dozens of bands rally in Fergus to play for not only titles and prizes, but also for the love of the music. Witness the majestic rows of marching pipers and drummers, the breathing-taking massed bands and the skilled solo players.

The Fergus Scottish Festival hosts its piping competition in conjunction with the Pipers’ and Pipe Band Society of Ontario and is ranked as a “Champion Supreme Contest”. Competitors compete at different “grade” levels: Grades 1 through 5, with Grade 1 including the most seasoned and experienced pipers and drummers. The Festival runs competitions for individual pipers and drummers, as well as whole pipe bands.
